Truckhaven for
the sane.
WHAT: When ol' Doc Beaty first cut the dirt road from Borrego to the Truckhaven Cafe at the Salton Sea in 1929, it was for commerce. Would you believe it was not until 1968 when the route was paved and became known as the Borrego-Salton Seaway (S-22)! On this adventure we'll skip the commerce and pavement and explore the historically rich maze of hills and washes in 4WD. Hidden within are the 17-Palm Oasis prospector's post office Calcite Mine, Locomotive Rock, Palm Wash, tenajas and plenty of four-wheeling. The challenging Truckhaven Hills are a maze of trails that run from the sublime to the ridiculous and we'll leave the ridiculous for those who brave the Truckhaven Trek. Saturday night we'll camp out in the desert, have a potluck dinner and relive the days adventures via video. Both Saturday afternoon and Sunday will be hands-on skills-learning days. taking time to demonstrate proper equipment usage. We'll climb up and down huge hills and cruise the washes while discovering the area's attractions.

WHO: Anyone with a fully insured street-legal 4X. This trip will put you in touch with your 4WD and camping skills.
