We’ll explore both the backroads of history and the backroads of the
Western Mojave and Sequoia National Forest and camp one night under the pines in
the Piute Mountains.
WHAT: Located in Kern County at the southern end of the Sierra Nevada, the Piute Mountains are part of a historic past. Indians, miners, settlers and loggers have made their marks on the land. This trip combines sightseeing and exploration of historic areas. You’ll improve backroad driving skills as we navigate through desert and forest.
We’ll climb into the Piutes and enjoy cool mountain air at our campsite and in the traditional pioneer spirit, we will consume a pot luck dinner.
When we come off the mountain Sunday, there will be plenty of time to explore the scenic Kernville and Lake Isabella area heading home. If you're hot for more adventure, you can cool off on a one-hour white-water rafting tour on the Kern River. Ready to try the tough stuff? Spend the afternoon with Big Red climbing Black Gulch Trail. Stock 4Xs welcome on this leg, but lockers and extra ground clearance are recommended,

WHO: Anyone with a fully insured street legal 4-Wheeler. This is a good introductory camping and 4WD trip.
FEE: Check with Ecological 4-Wheeling Adventures for current fees.
EQUIPMENT: Limited to 14 4WD vehicles.
