Death Valley Excursion

TRIP LEADER: Harry Lewellyn

This four-day mini-vacation is a perfect mix of snow and desert.

WHAT: Worldwide travelers proclaim the beauty and grandeur of Death Valley and never leave the pavement! The Silver Coyote goes beyond run-of-the-mill attractions. He ventures into the back country.

The possibly snowy, infamous Lippencott Mine Road approach yields the Racetrack, Teakettle Junction and Ubehebe Crater on day one. That evening, we'll settle in for three nights at the world-famous Furnace Creek Ranch. Bright and early the next morning, it's off to the ghost town of Rhyolite as a prelude to the beauties of Titus Canyon. This dirt trail offers a spectacular perspective of the valley and a majestic vista of California's Sierra Nevada. Titus Canyon puts us out at the highway just a few miles from Scotty's Castle and other easily accessible attractions. The afternoon is free, but be sure to mosey on back to the Ranch that evening for the chicken 'n ribs BBQ dinner on the Coyote.

Throughout the third day we'll, figuratively speaking, leave no stone unturned as we explore Striped Butte Valley. There, we'll discover a variety of features and attractions within just a few short miles. The last morning, it's back on the trail for home via Dante's View, Greenwater Valley, Shoshone, Baker and I-15 south.
