Gold Rush Adventure
Trip to Northern Mother Lode Diggings
Nevada City, CA - Aug. 15-16, 1997
Gold Rush Adventure is a guided 4WD trip into the heart of back country Sierra and Nevada county. We'll meet in Nevada City at the Northern Queen Inn, located in rolling hills 65-miles east of Sacramento. Expect scenic and gentle four wheeling, great food and to see many of the most interesting historical Gold Rush sites left today.
You will see early mining equipment, take a walk-thru mining tour, visit museums, and an old 1870's saloon and dance hall. Enjoy watching a waterfall or creek at breakfast or outdoor dinner having a flowing river a few feet from you table. The charm of old mining towns harmonize perfectly with the natural loveliness of the Sierran hills and Yuba River Valley is due largely to the surviving structures of the early pioneer days. The quality of these remaining structures and equipment are impressive as the people are friendly.
Your trip will include the Malakoff Diggins, an early hydraulic mining sight, Poker Flats, Columbia, Forest, North Bloomfield, La Porte, German Bar, Alleghany, Potosi, and the Kentuckey Mines in Sierra City.
The infamous Gold Rush ushered in an era of modern mining as crude methods of extracting gold from crevices by use of knife point rapidly gave way in turn to panning, hydraulic sluicing, quartz mining and dredging. At the Gold Rush Adventure you can see it all; but motel accommodations are limited, so don't delay if you want a roof over you head.
