Explore California's Redwood Wonderland
Fort Bragg to Eureka, CA - May 9-10, 1997
This picturesque two-day excursion between the seaports of Fort Bragg and Eureka offers the unique settings of giant redwood trees, ocean, streams, black sand beaches and lush green ferns. The trip begins in Fort Bragg at the Surrey Inn overlooking the scenic fishing village at Noyo Harbor.
The route covers historic logging trails in Humboldt and Mendocino counties in the heart of the West's ancient redwood forests and remote dog-port harbors. You will experience the panoramic beauty of the Mattole Valley, King Range, Shelter Cove, Bear Creek, Honeydew, and Ferndale - best of the Lost Coast.
Our twisty mountain route follows pathways carved by early horse-drawn teams over dirt, rock and sandy trails hauling fallen trees to the mill. There will be plenty of time to relax, drive on the beach and splash into ocean waves, and explore personal interests.
Your trip will include a wharfside seafood or steak dinner in Shelter Cove and trip ending feast at the world famous Somoa Cookhouse amid century old relics of the lumbercamp days. The trip is perfect ten for scenic beauty offering fun for the entire family. Trail difficulty: 2-3, rain: 3-5 on 10 point scale.
