Ghost Town Adventure '97
Exploring Western Ghost Towns
Sept. 12-13, 1997
Chilling tales of abandoned Old West ghost towns complete with tumble-weeds strewn about and old saloon doors creaking in the breeze may scare more than a few prospective visitors. But if you're not the kind of person who is easily spooked, then Ghost Town Adventure '97 might be just what you're clamoring for. The expedition begins at shores of South Lake Tahoe at Harrah's Hotel & Casino, then heads out for two full days exploring early California and Nevada settlements, abandoned mining camps, ghost and boom towns of the Old West. You will see remnants of the past, learn what life was like for pioneers, reliving one of the wildest, wooliest period in American history.
Your journey will wind its way through pinion pines, juniper trees, and scenic canyons on trails that twist and climb over high mountain passes with spectacular Alpine vistas and open plains, past green meadows, lakes and river. We'll explore ruins of old silver mines, visit a pioneer courtroom and jail, giant reptilian fossil remains, restored boomtown hotel, border town cemetery and still-operating old mining camp saloon.
Trip includes Bodie, Ione, Genoa, Berlin, Tolyabe City, Aurora, maybe Fort Churchill or Belmont and Manhattan and more! There are endless photo opportunities to see Ghost Towns in every stage of physical deterioration, some with their interior crumbling, many within a few feet of your vehicle.
Enjoy the security of traveling to remote areas with experienced guides. Four wheel vehicle rental available. Trail difficulty: 3-5 on a 10 point scale.
